Emily Macheski-Preston


Emily is a member of Coleman Talley’s litigation department, specializing in Local Government Law and Employment Law. As a trial lawyer, Emily defends local government clients in litigation involving zoning matters, constitutional challenges to ordinances, first amendment litigation, and general liability defense. Emily also provides preventative counseling on compliance with federal and state regulations to business owners and healthcare providers. In the event of litigation, Emily has experience representing business owners and healthcare providers in a variety of suits.

Emily attended both Oglethorpe University and Mercer Law School on full academic scholarships, graduating with honors. Prior to joining Coleman Talley, she was selected for the prestigious Governor's Intern Program. In 2009 and 2010, Emily was recognized nationally for her oral advocacy skills by Emory University, the Charleston School of Law, and the National Order of Barristers. In 2012, Emily was named the Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce’s Young Professional of the Year. She is a graduate of the 2013 Leadership Lowndes class.

During her tenure in the firm's Valdosta office, Emily was actively involved in the Valdosta community, serving as the Vice-Chair of the Georgia Department of Labor’s South Georgia Employer Committee, the Vice-Chair on Healthcare on the Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce's Government Affairs Council, Board Member for MetroOne Young Professionals, the Valdosta Board Member of the Georgia Legal Services Program, Board Member for Keep-Lowndes Valdosta Beautiful, Committee Member for Wiregrass Technical College’s 2013 and 2014 Gathering of the Eagles, and Attorney Coach for Valwood School’s 2012-2014 High School Mock Trial Team. In 2014, Emily relocated to Brookhaven, Georgia to join the firm’s Atlanta office.

Emily is admitted to practice in Georgia's State and Federal Courts, including Magistrate Court, Superior Court, State Court, the Middle District of Georgia, the Northern District of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of Georgia. She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia’s Labor and Employment Law Division, the Young Lawyers Divisions’ Labor and Employment Law Committee, and Oglethorpe University’s Stormy Petrel Bar Association.
