Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr announced last week that the state’s legal community raised 1.34 million pounds of food during the Georgia Legal Food Frenzy, an annual competition sponsored by the Georgia Food Bank Association, the Young Lawyers Division, and the Attorney General’s office.  During the 6th annual event, 215 law firms and legal organizations in 45 cities collected a record-breaking amount of food for Georgia’s food banks.  “More than 60 percent of kids in Georgia are eligible for free or reduced meals during the school year,” said Attorney General Chris Carr. “During the summer, these children and families count on their regional food banks as a source of food. The Georgia Legal Food Frenzy is designed to ensure the food banks are sufficiently stocked to meet this increased demand.”

Valdosta-based law firm Coleman Talley LLP received the Bar President’s Award, given to the firm who tabulated the highest number of pounds overall among the 215 competitors throughout the state of Georgia.  Coleman Talley raised a total of 141,000 pounds of food for Second Harvest of South Georgia.  “When the Georgia Attorney General announced several years ago that he was beginning the Legal Food Frenzy, it was the perfect opportunity for the firm to marry its legal passions with its charitable ones,” said Partner Bill Holland, who has been a Second Harvest of South Georgia Board Member for over 20 years.  “The partners and employees of Coleman Talley have all personally contributed to the Food Frenzy each year,” he said. “In addition, we call upon our friends, clients, and business associates to participate. We have never been disappointed with the level of support from our attorneys, staff, and friends.”

“Coleman Talley’s dedication to the fight against hunger is a great example of how businesses can give back to their community.  We are proud of their win, but we are even more proud of the exceptional good they do in South Georgia each year,” said Eliza McCall, Second Harvest of South Georgia Chief Marketing Officer.
